The Digital Herbarium
The Digital Herbarium project is a collection of digital plants, flowers, organic species that I collect through my imaginative journey in the great fields of Mythology, Science and Poetry…
The four symbols of China
I was commissioned to make four exclusive artworks. The given theme was : New beginning !
I started to look a combinations of four entities like the four elements, the four seasons… and I came across the four symbols of China : the Azure Dragon, the Vermilion Bird, the White Tiger, and the Black Tortoise.
Each artwork illustrates a cardinal point ( East, South, West and North), a season ( Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter), a time of the day ( Dawn, Midday, Dusk, Midnight), a material ( Wood, Fire, Metal, Water)…
I started to think about each piece in relation with “New Beginning”. It feels like we can start over at every age of our life. The Dragon carrying the seeds of Spring, the Bird in his nest, the Tiger in all his strength and the eternal Tortoise finally dying…
The Sweet Mandrake
“Witches' favorite and Love-apple of the Ancient...
This deadly nightshade was hard to get… I had to plug my ears with wax as her screams could kill whoever wishes to dig up its roots…”
At times, the artist faces loneliness and anxiety. She/he wishes to scream so the world can hear but she/he shall remain silent to preserve the social laws. It is armed with Patience and Passion that the pain will pass and imagination and poetry shall take over negative thoughts.
"What with loathsome smells, And shrieks like mandrakes torn out of the earth, That living mortals, hearing them, run mad."
William Shakespeare
The Datura Dance
The Greek goddess Circe was sent to the Island Aeaea, for eternity by her father, Helios. By using magic potions and herbs, such as Datura stramonium, she would transform any men visiting, eating her food, abusing her into pigs…
This piece represents a microscopic goddess dancing, chanting, almost as a reborn from the ashes. It is about women empowerment and resilience.
The movement and composition is inspired by the German choreographer Pina Bausch.
